Wakulla Springs Afternoon

Yesterday afternoon was clear and cool on the Wakulla River. We saw Anhingas, Egrets, Herons, Woodducks, Suwanne Cooters, Gators and several large manatees. Usually we see manatees further down the river instead of the park. Maybe all the flooding from hurricane Dennis drove them further upriver into fresh water in the park. They even swam under the jungle boat. :) It is finally beginning to cool off down here and the Dog Days are losing their sizzle and fall is whispering. :)

Be a Star/Robert Sidney Cox III

Here's a photo of Arcy Cox in China Town. He's modeling a "Be A Star, Play Banjo' T-shirt.
Besides being a big time scientist--he did a great job of booking and promoting our California concert last spring. Posted by Picasa

Blooms and banjos

Desert in bloom/ spring 2005 This photo was taken in Arizona this spring on our way to California. We took three banjos, two mountain dulcimers, and two guitars cross country with us to a concert at Cal Tech. We traveled in a nine year old RoadTrek and camped out and back.
We traveled I-10 on the way out and caught much of the Sonoran Desert in bloom. On the way home, we camped along I-40 and encountered snow near Flagstaff. :)Posted by Picasa

There's lots of clawhammer banjo on this CD

Don't be fooled--yes this CD has old time string band style mountain dulcimer--but it also has 8 tracks with old time banjo plus many tracks with old time fiddle, guitar, and a couple of tracks with funk bass. :) Click on this link to see a list of tunes, free audio samples, and reviews of this CD. http://cdbaby.com/cd/maryzcox4 Posted by Picasa

Sunshine State Acoustic Music Camp

Here is a photo of Tommy Bledsoe, Ernie Williams and myself hosting a banjo class.
This year--Ernie and I will be teaming up at the Sunshine State Acoustic Music Camp in St. Petersburg to teach old time banjo. We've taught together before and have had a great time and want to give everyone more attention with two instructors. It's the second weekend in October--here's the web site for more information.

Sunday's banjo

Here is a photo from a couple years ago at the Litchgate House in Tallahassee. The occasion was that Mark Johnson was in town and look at all the Tallahassee clawhammerers that came out for it. Banjos that may be of interest in this photo: Mark's Ivanhoe, my Ramsey Woody, Howard Pardue's (front row--turquoise shirt) Kyle Creed. Bob Jones (white shirt) either has an Ome or a GT White Lady, but I can't see well enough to tell in the photo.
Hey Bob--if you read this--leave a comment which banjo you had that day. :)Posted by Picasa
